It has been nearly fifty years since the Cataclysm that destroyed the Old World. Humanity’s last bastions lie in their Cities, with walls slowly decaying, and desperation mounting. The impending threat of death lies at the citizens’ throats, as the Walls threaten to collapse any day, releasing the terrible beasts of the outside into the precious inside.
Here we stand in the City of Dyon, home to the Firmament Corporation’s headquarters. Though its central districts remain rich and guarded by the order granted by multiple security details, the outer districts become ever more dilapidated by the day. Sharp divisions of status have become apparent, with those who live in the outer districts the unfortunate, and those in Central the blessed. A new entrance to the Warrens has been discovered, and with a new entrance to the underground, it means the opening of new opportunities for the people of Dyon to make it rich. Firmament Corporation is certainly not one that would miss the chance to seize the artifacts of the Old World before its competitors, and with it, has called for the City’s contractors to help them explore the ruins. They have promised money, fame, and power to those who return with full hauls, simple commodities so difficult for one to obtain, and yet so desired by many. Yet all know of the dangers of delving into those depths, for the terrible spawn of the Storm are no less savage in the Warrens than the surface.
The Academy, the Hall, and the Library, among a myriad number of other organizations, are not standing still either. They too wish to grasp hold of those figments of the past, though all for their own reasons. Great currents move once more as the City wakes to throw its citizens into their deaths beneath the streets.
