This lesson is hands-on practice for the concepts and tools in the previous lesson. You might want to review the descriptions of the tools and how to use them.
Please note: Late homework will be penalized 20% of the potential grade. The links to your Google Map and Google Street View will each be graded separately. Your opinion post is worth 60% and the REPLY (a meaningful response to some one else) is worth 40%.
Make sure you are in the Google Account of your Google Sites class Website. Go to Google Maps and zero in on a location that you might use while teaching. Get the EMBEDDING code to SHARE the resulting map and EMBED it into a new page (entitled "MAPS") in your Google Sites class Website. Make sure that you make the Google Map PUBLIC in the process of SHARING it.
Click on the little orange man, at the lower-right corner of your Google Map, drag and drop him (actually, the halo under his feet) on a blue line (i.e., a street where the Google Car drove on) next to a significant location on your map. In the resulting Google Street View, check if you indeed see the significant item you wanted to show the students. Get the EMBEDDING code to SHARE the Street View and EMBED it into the same MAPS page in your Google Sites class web site. Make sure that the "embedding window" in your Webpage is wide enough and tall enough that you can see the directional arrows and the compass. EMBED the Street View directly below the Google Map. Make sure that you make the Street View PUBLIC in the process of SHARING it.
COPY the URL of your MAPS page and publish it in the Lesson 21 MOODLE discussion forum. Make sure that the link works and brings you to your MAPS page. Briefly explain what is in your Google Map and corresponding Google Street View. Please try to post your work at least two days before the next lesson so that the other students will have time to examine and respond to your work.
Follow the links of at least TWO students in order to see their Google Maps and Street Views. In the Lesson 21 MOODLE discussion forum, respond to at least one of them. In particular, tell the "owner" if you cannot see their maps and/or Street Views! This means that they have to change the SHARING status.
WARNING!!!
You must SHARE you Google Map and Google Street View PUBLICLY. If you don't, no one will be able to see them and you will get a ZERO for all your hard work. Please ask another student to check you work from another computer to make sure people can see your work!
