Dear students,
Here are a few relevant facts about me. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
I was born and grew up in (and near) Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
I earned my B.A. in Political Science and Latin American Studies at Brandeis University, which is near Boston.
I earned my first M.A., in Latin American Studies, at Stanford University in California.
I made aliyah in 1974 and eventually became a member of Kibbutz Gadot, in the Upper Galilee.
I worked in the cotton division and taught EFL in Gadot's elementary school. When it became obvious that I was not a great farmer, I started teaching EFL full-time at the Har V'Gai Regional School (grades 7-12) in Kibbutz Dafna. At Har V'Gai, I became interested in CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning).
My kibbutz sent me to earn my second M.A., in Bilingual and ESL Instruction, at the University of Massachusetts - Boston; during which time I focused on CALL. While I was in Boston, I also taught ESL at Boston University and U. Mass.-Boston.
After coming back to Kibbutz Gadot, I continued teaching EFL at Har V'Gai Regional School. I also served as the chairperson of the Education Committee of Kibbutz Gadot for a number of years.
I worked part-time as the CALL Counselor for the Northern District of the Ministry of Education for two years and then as the National CALL Counselor for the English Inspectorate for eleven years.
During that time, I earned a Ph.D. in Educational Technology at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Because I knew that the future of education would include online learning/teaching, I found a doctoral program that was hybrid. I spent an intensive-study week at the beginning of each semester on campus in Ft. Lauderdale and then continued studying online for the rest of the semester. My Ph.D. dissertation was about using a particular textual virtual world (a MOO site that was dedicated to EFL and ESL) for teaching/learning EFL.
My kibbutz allowed me to work at Cambridge College (in Boston, MA) for a year (2001-2002) as the Chairperson of the Instructional Technology Department. After that on-site year, I worked for 20 years for Cambridge College both online and on-site (during the summer semester) as a senior instructor in the Instructional Technology Department and the ESL Department. I also taught educational technology online at Lesley University for a number of years.
Back at Har V'Gai Regional School, I continued teaching EFL, became responsible for the computer system of the EFL Department, and taught other EFL teachers how to use computers and the Internet in their work.
The English Inspector for the Druze schools asked me to work at Pedagogical Centers for Druze teachers, which I did so for a number of years. I also taught courses at Jewish and Arab Pedagogical Centers.
I retired from Har V'Gai after 37 years of teaching there.
A few years ago, I started teaching educational technology courses at Sha'anan College.
