Original Project Brief
The Interpretive Visitor Centre was designed as an educational and cultural destination that introduces visitors to the history, development, and significance of Putrajaya. The project aimed to create an engaging environment where visitors could learn about the transformation of Putrajaya from Prang Besar, an agricultural area, into Malaysia's modern administrative capital. The building was intended to combine exhibition spaces, learning facilities, and public gathering areas while providing a memorable visitor experience.
Original Design Objectives
The main objectives of the project were:
To educate visitors about the history of Putrajaya.
To create an iconic landmark that represents national transformation.
To provide comfortable spaces for exhibitions and learning activities.
To encourage public engagement through interactive experiences.
To integrate architecture with the surrounding landscape.
Design Proposal Adopted
The adopted design concept was inspired by the idea of transformation and growth. The architectural form symbolized the journey of Putrajaya from its agricultural roots to a modern and progressive city. The building incorporated exhibition galleries, a digital library, administrative facilities, visitor amenities, and landscaped public spaces. The design emphasized openness, visual connectivity, and a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor environments.

Strengths of the Proposal
The original proposal had several strengths. The project presented a clear narrative that reflected Putrajaya's transformation story. The spatial organization was easy to understand, allowing visitors to move naturally through the exhibition and public areas. The building established a strong visual identity and successfully connected architecture with the surrounding landscape. The concept was meaningful and effectively communicated the intended message of national development and progress.
Limitations of the Proposal
Despite its strengths, the original proposal had several limitations. Climate-responsive strategies were not fully developed, resulting in limited consideration of natural ventilation and solar control. Environmental performance was not thoroughly evaluated during the design process. The sustainability features were relatively basic and could be improved through passive design strategies and advanced building technologies. In addition, the design process relied primarily on conventional methods, limiting opportunities for broader exploration and performance-based decision-making.
