In this video, we will learn about the artist, Charity White, and the meaning in her artwork.
Let's keep these themes in mind: accessibility, purposes (reasons), power, control, history, and community.
There are also a few pictures of Charity's art work. Feel free to look it over.
What do you think about it? How do you feel?
This document is a handout sharing more in-depth information about Charity White!
You are encouraged to independently read through the artist handout and learn more about her on your own time.
These journaling examples are from Week 1 Amanda Williams Color Palette activity.
Activity Instructions (In Zoom)
Take out your journal (or a piece of paper) and any writing utensil -- pencils, pens, markers, crayons, etc. It is encouraged to have some coloring tools.
Sitting down in your current spot, take notes of the space you are in. Feel free to write and/or doodle about it. (Don't draw the space!) View the two journal examples provided.
What can you take notes about? -- Use as many senses as you can! Touch, smell, see, feel, or hear.
Using your coloring tools, match the colors you see in the room to your description with your best ability.
You are encouraged to journal at an outdoor environment with adult permission and supervision!
Here are some vocabulary words to keep in mind that are used in this lesson's context.
Disrupt: interrupt by causing a disturbance; dramatically alter the structure of something
Challenge: to question or object the presented idea or concept
Highlight: significantly emphasize or make an element more prominent (like a spotlight)
Sculpture: a piece or form that’s three-dimensional (3D), that represents a thing, person, idea, etc.
After journaling and learning about Charity White, sketch out the sculpture you want to create for your space. This allows you to plan and have an idea of what you will sculpt.
Note, you will be using construction paper, Model Magic, scissors, and glue for your sculpture.
Look at the example image provided of the journal and a sketch.
