This course is designed to take about two hours per week (on average). When I assign a movie for you to watch, expect to schedule an extra two hours for that. Please plan to:
Set aside time each week to view all module materials and submit required work.
Log in regularly each week to check for announcements, grades, messages, and comments.
Participate in online discussions, and respond thoughtfully to your peers.
Attend a live class discussion once a month.
During the first twelve days of class (before Census Day), you will need to complete a few things to secure your spot in the class:
Watch/complete Orientation Video
Complete the "About me" discussion
Submit the "Self-Check Quiz: Module Orientation"
Throughout the term, submit work regularly to show your active attendance. If you do not submit work for 2 modules in a row, I will follow up with you through email. If you do not respond to my correspondence within a week, I will withdraw you from the class.
Your participation is important for the success of this course, but I also recognize that you are human, and life happens. If you've reached a point where you have fallen behind, or can't meet the due dates, please contact me. We'll work together to make a path to success.
Every assignment will be assigned a certain number of points. Your final grade will be your points earned out of the total possible.
The total possible points will be ~2,000 points.
Some of the major assignments worth more points will include:
Live Class Discussion attendance and participation: 100 points each; 400 points total.
Midterm and Final Reflections: 100 points each (with an opportunity to skip them!)
If you have at least 90% in the course on the Wednesday before the Midterm or Final Reflection is due, you are excused from doing the Reflection.
Practical Project: 180 points
Grading Scale

At EVC, your academic success matters. You are important to us and we want to ensure that you have the tools and support you need to be academically successful, so EVC has implemented an Early Alert program. The goal of the Early Alert program is to support your success by providing intervention support services. The Early Alert process begins with your instructors identifying you as a student who may be in need of academic support if they see you struggling in their classes for various reasons. Designed not to be punitive or judgmental, Early Alert is not reflected on your transcript and does not affect your financial aid or GPA.
I will accept late work; however, it is in your best interest to turn things in on time so that it does not accumulate. Also, our discussions will be focused on the topic of the week, so it is best to keep up with the work.
Consequences for late work vary according the assignment type:
PlayPosit and other short assignments (discussions, quizzes, etc.): no penalty if turned in before the Midterm Reflection due date (for work assigned before the Midterm) or Final Reflection due date (for work assigned after the Midterm). The work will be unavailable to turn in after those dates and will earn a 0.
Practical Project: 10% penalty for each week that each part is late.
Midterm and Final Reflections: 10% point penalty for each week it is late.
Cheating on any form of work is unethical and against school and class policies. Any student caught cheating on an assignment will receive a zero for that incident. Any student caught cheating twice will receive an F in the class.
The most common form of cheating in this class is plagiarism. Your writing must be your own. If you use material or a quote from somewhere else, please tell me where you found it and give credit/cite the sources.
