Mrs. Kercher

Yá’át’ééh Eva B. Stokely Families and Students! Thank you for having me! I’m super excited to join the Eva B. team!

I’m originally from Portland, Connecticut, a town in central Connecticut of around 9,000 people that lies along the Connecticut River and is famous for its brownstone quarries. The word "Connecticut" is an adaptation of the Mohegan word quinetucket, which means "beside the long, tidal river". My ancestors come from Scandinavia (Sweden and Denmark), Eastern Europe (Hungary), the British Isles (Scotland and Ireland), and Western Europe (Germany and the Canary Islands).

I have been teaching students around the world for 17+ years and immersing myself in and learning from diverse cultures for as long as I can remember. My husband, Tim, and I met and sat next to one another on the airplane ride over to Mongolia as Peace Corps Volunteers in 1999 and have been married since 2002! We have four amazing, energetic, and loving kiddos: Ani and Ketevan (10-year-old twin daughters), Keats (7-year-old son), and Fields (3-year-old son).

I’ve lived and taught in Eagle County, Colorado (Immigrant Community Advocate); Ixtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico (ESL); Montezuma-Cortez High School (Spanish); Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia and Kyiv, Ukraine (3rd grade); San Juan BOCES, T’iis Nazbas Community School, and Red Rock Day School (Special Education and Speech/Language); Mancos Elementary School (K-5 Special Education – Affective Education and Social Emotional Learning); and now Eva B. Stokely Elementary School (Special Education/Autism). I am passionate about advocating for and empowering my students with disabilities and their families and believe in a spectrum of possibilities! Inclusion is my love language and I’m honored to be a part of the Eva B. Stokely family.
