"From December 2nd to 6th, the fourth mobility of the Erasmus+ European Program titled "New Values of Democracy in Today's Europe" took place. This time, participating students and teachers met in Athens, the birthplace of Democracy, to discover the milestones and paths of this unique political system that has been the cornerstone of modern European culture and the vision of the European Union.
Students and teachers from Romania (the coordinating country of the program), Poland, Croatia, Spain, and Portugal met with Greek educators and students at the 5th High School of Petroupoli and traveled through time using art and history as their vehicles. They came into contact with democratic values such as equality, respect, justice, free will, cooperation, and acceptance of diversity.
It was a particularly creative week filled with experiential activities, debate workshops, creative writing workshops, a simulation of the assembly of the people at the Pnyx, a presentation of the play Antigone at the ancient theater of Epidaurus, and the creation of a digital album. Our guests were guided to the sacred rock of the Acropolis, the Hellenic Parliament, the Zappeion Hall, the Panathenaic Stadium, and the Ancient Agora. Of course, environmental activities were not missing, as participants explored water resources in the program countries, water scarcity, climate change, and its devastating effects on Greece and Spain in recent years with the floods.
Full of experiences, we renewed our appointment for January in Madeira, Portugal."
