Punctuality and Lateness

• Most subjects have 2 x 1 hour 50 minute lessons per week.
• The attendance roll is taken at the beginning of each lesson so you should be there on time to be counted.
• Students are advised to arrive 5 minutes before their lesson commences to ensure they are ready and prepared for the lesson
• Students are required to collect an Entry Pass from the Ground Floor providing a valid reason for being late and present their Entry Pass to their teacher upon entering the classroom
• Students arriving late to class interrupts the flow of the lesson, the teaching of the teacher, and the learning of other students. While occasional lateness can be unavoidable, habitual lateness is not acceptable in an independent learning environment
• The College will engage with students and parents/caregivers regarding habitual lateness. We observe punctuality as a significant trait of an independent learner in an independent learning environment.

Running Late

It is your responsibility to be on time for all of your classes - to be late interrupts the lesson for your teachers and for other students. You also miss the introduction to the lesson and usually critical information about assessment dates and important reminders.

You will need to collect an Entry Pass from Reception to give to your teacher before entering your lesson.

Your Responsibilities

• If you are running late, call the school directly on 8410 5388 to get a message to your class teacher.
• At reception, complete an ENTRY PASS slip from the ENTRY PASS book. Neatly tear out your ENTRY PASS slip.
• Proceed to class as soon as you can. Your teacher may expect you to wait outside until an appropriate time to enter that will not cause interruptions to the lesson.
• Use your judgement: give your ENTRY PASS to your teacher at the earliest and most appropriate time without interrupting the lesson.
• You may be able to use the break time in the lesson to catch up with your teacher on what you missed out and discuss your reasons for being late, if not, you will need to do this at the end of the lesson or in a mutually agreeable time.

Students, parents, teachers and mentors can easily track attendance and lateness in Daymap in a number of ways.

Click on This Week which will show you attendance for each lesson against your timetable for the week in real time.

Click on Attendance and you will see your attendance map for the year. Each day is colour coded to reflect days where you were absent or late for a particular lesson.
