Eynesbury is a specialist senior college dedicated to the pursuit of academic excellence and the development of the full potential of its students.
While we are a school with few 'rules', the Eynesbury Code of Behaviour establishes responsibilities for all students and staff which are appropriate to a learning environment that is respectful of students as emerging young adults.
In choosing Eynesbury you agree to work within the framework offered by our Code of Behaviour, a framework which is intended to establish a working environment for everyone in the school community a place which is safe, tolerant and fair.
You can be sure that if you act as a responsible young adult you will be treated accordingly.
You can see the full ESC Code of Conduct here
RESPECT AND TOLERANCE
We are a small community of scholars. You are expected to show respect for and tolerance of your peers, the first requirement of civilized behaviour, in the way you relate to others and their views. We have a diverse community, and Eynesbury students characteristically are tolerant and respective of the differences which make up our community.
COMMUNITY AWARENESS
We are a city school. While you are not immediately identifiable as an Eynesbury student by uniform, remember that your behaviour, good and bad, reflects upon the school and that all of us have obligations to the businesses in the immediate vicinity and the people who work there. The school takes its civic responsibilities seriously.
We expect you to do so too.
FOOD, DRINK AND GUM
You are not to consume food and drink (other than water) in classrooms. Consumption of gum anywhere in the building or on the Terrace is prohibited. When consuming food on the concourses, students are expected to take responsibility for their working and learning environment and to clean up any mess made in these areas.
PUNCTUALITY
Part of being an independent learner is self-management. Sometimes, circumstances beyond our control can stop us from getting to class on time, but it is imperative that you take responsibility for your time and be at your classes.
Lateness disrupts the flow of a lesson, interrupts the teacher's teaching, and ultimately impact other students' learning, which is the ultimate 'sin' at Eynesbury.
DRESS
There is no uniform, but there is a clear expectation that your dress will be neat, clean and casual, and free from offensive slogans, images and appropriate for a focussed learning environment. A common-sense requirement is that footwear is worn at all times.
MOBILE PHONES
We understand that mobile phones are more than just communication devices: they can be used in effective ways to support your learning through a variety of different apps, even simply as a calculator or a music device or camera.
You are welcome to use your phone in your breaks on campus, but we ask that you be mindful of the way you use your phone in the building. They should not be used in noisy or disruptive ways to those working around you.
Phones should always be on silent, switched off, or on flight mode and out of sight in the classroom. They should NOT be used in class unless you have permission from your teacher to do so (e.g. to use as a calculator).
Phones should not, under any circumstances, interrupt the teaching and learning happening in the classroom or be used as communication devices in the classroom. They should not be a distraction to you, your teacher, or other students during class.
You may wish to make use of the Phone Box in your classroom to limit opportunities for you to be distracted by your phone in class.
Your teacher may insist that you put your phone in the Phone Box to avoid circumstances where you may be distracted by your phone. You will be expected to comply with such a request.
Students are asked to take phone calls in the two outdoor spaces on campus: the Terrace on level 2 or outside of the building on Franklin St. Phone calls must not be made or taken inside the building as a courtesy to others.
PERSONAL MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT DEVICES
iPods, smartphones and personal music and entertainment devices may not be used in class except when students are working on individual tasks, and then only with the approval of the teacher.
This extends to the viewing of videos (such as YouTube etc.) and playing of games on your laptop, phone or tablet which are not related to your classwork.
OFF LIMITS
Neighbouring licensed venues are off-limits (excludes cafes such as Public to purchase food and non-alcoholic beverages)
RECORDING IN THE CLASSROOM
There are specific guidelines and rules that you must follow if you want to record in your class. Please negotiate opportunities to record in class (video or audio) with your teacher. Recording of lessons or activities in the classroom is exclusively at the teacher's discretion. No-one should be recorded without their knowledge. Under no circumstances should any recordings be published on public websites or social media.
SMOKING
Our campus is a smoke-free campus. You are expected to respect the College's policy on smoking. There is to be NO smoking on or around the campus. We are an Asthma Aware School. If you are a smoker, you are asked to abide by the full smoking policy found here.
PROHIBITED AND/OR HARMFUL SUBSTANCES
Tobacco, alcohol, prohibited and/or unsanctioned drugs, volatile substances and other harmful substances constitute a health risk, and their consumption is strictly prohibited. If you are found in possession of alcohol or any prohibited and/or harmful substance, you may have your enrolment terminated immediately. The College has a legal obligation to report breaches of the law to the police. The full policy on prohibited substances can be found here.
