Project Description:
For this project, I researched an emerging healthcare technology and created a presentation explaining its possible impact on the future of medicine. My topic was GLP-1 receptor agonists and their potential use in neurodegenerative diseases.
Why I Chose This Topic:
I chose this topic because I have worked with patients who live with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Seeing how these diseases affect patients, families, and healthcare teams made me interested in learning about new treatment possibilities.
One Interesting Thing I Learned:
One interesting thing I learned is that medications originally designed for diabetes and obesity are now being studied for possible brain-protective effects.
Lessons Learned Reflection:
This project helped me understand that emerging technologies can be exciting, but they also need strong research before they become common treatments. I learned that early studies may show promise, but larger clinical trials are needed to prove whether a treatment truly works. This topic also reminded me how important it is to balance hope with realistic expectations in healthcare.
