For this project, I looked up two recent news articles about cybersecurity using Google News. I chose two different stories from the last three months and wrote short summaries explaining what happened, what kind of cyber issue it was, who was affected, and how people can protect themselves from similar problems. I also checked each source by looking at who wrote it, where it was published, when it came out, and whether the information seemed accurate and unbiased. On a separate page, I added my CyberSecurity Certificate and wrote a few sentences about what I learned during the course.
The article explains that Hyatt Hotels and Ingram Micro were both hit by ransomware attacks where hackers stole sensitive data and tried to extort the companies. These incidents involved data theft and threats to leak the information, a common tactic used by modern ransomware groups. Hyatt’s stolen data reportedly includes internal records and employee credentials, while Ingram Micro confirmed that personal information for about 42,000 employees was exposed. These attacks show how large organizations can be vulnerable when cybercriminals gain access to internal systems. People and companies can reduce risk by using strong passwords, enabling multi‑factor authentication, keeping software updated, and being cautious of phishing emails that often lead to these breaches.

The article warns that a new iPhone‑targeting malware called DarkSword is being used to steal personal data from devices running older versions of iOS. This attack uses a web‑based exploit, meaning hackers can break into a phone just by getting someone to click a harmful link. People in countries like Ukraine, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Malaysia have been affected. The malware can grab things like messages, call history, passwords, and location data within seconds. To stay safe, users should update their iPhones to the latest iOS version or turn on Lockdown Mode if they can’t update.
