On this page, I will be researching 2 different articles about cybersecurity and giving a brief summary of each article. Both articles will be abut recent cybersecurity scams and include ways to avoid these situations in the future.
Above, I have attached an article about a pop- up that has been appearing, which is really just a phishing scam that a lot of people are falling for. LastPass had a phishing scam surface on January 19th, advising users to back up their data. On that same day, LastPass sent out an email to users saying they are not asking individuals to back up their data and that the pop-up was part of a malicious and common social engineering tactic. Password managers are prime targets for hackers because of the personal information that can be gained. The emails were sent over MLK weekend, which is also a common tactic for hackers because people have off and there are fewer people to be able to report the scam. To avoid this in the future induvial should heed the warning that LastPass will never ask you to back up your data.

The article attached above is about how Bitcoin was the biggest cybersecurity scam in 2025. Bitcoin users across the country collectively had 3.3 million dollars taken from them. Most of the individuals who have fallen for the scam are 71 years or older. These hackers are making warrants for individuals' arrests, to have them pull money from their accounts, and then the hackers will take the money to a bitcoin kiosk, and by doing transactions that way, it cuts out the bank tellers or some other person that would have the power to intervene. To avoid hacks like this, education is the best force against them. Knowing the signs to look for when you get a phone call that is asking for too much information or the wrong information.

In this exercise, I learned it is way easier than any of us believe to be scammed in this day and age. In certain situations, you can be scammed and have absolutely no idea until your entire bank account is drained. There are many red flags to look for when it comes to potential scams, but these hackers are very good at what they do, and we all need to be extremely cautious about giving out any personal information.
