On this page, I will be describing how I believe social media impacts society and us as individuals. Social Media has become a part of most of our daily lives and is more impactful than we may think.
According to this quiz, I have a healthy relationship with social media. I believe my relationship with social media has been better as of late, but you can also find me scrolling on TikTok for hours. I dont necssarily agree 100% with the results of this quiz, but personally, I feel I have done a better job at not checking TikTok and Instagram so often.
There are so many different statistics out there about social media, but a fact I found very interesting is the statistics for how each political party and whether they think social media has a positive or negative effect. 76% of republicans ages 18-29 say social media effects are mostly negative, compared to the 43% of Democrats in the same age group who say the effects are mostly negative. 78% of Republicans 30+ feel the effects are negative compared to the 56% of Democrats in the same age range who feel effects are mostly negative.
To me, this is very interesting because I would have thought the parties would have been the other way around, and larger percentages of democrats would find social media effects mostly negative.
In my opinion, Social Media has positive and negative impacts on society. Social Media can be overconsuming and has made a lot of us who have grown up in that generation dependent on socials to keep us connected. It has caused a lot of individuals to be addicted to scrolling on social media. On the positive side, Social Media has become a source of income for some people. Certain platforms are also a very good way to get discovered if you happen to be an artist, because it is so easy to reach millions of people with the touch of one button.
In this Project the biggest take away is there are so many different viewpoints on social media, and whether it's good or bad, the effects it has on society, etc. There are a lot more individuals in this world who feel Social Media have an negative impact rather than a positive one, which ultimately is surprising to me because almost everyone uses social media platforms daily. It was also surprising that different political parities have the majority of the same viewpoint when considering the effects of social media on individuals.
