Set Up A Google Folder

Call your folder "Site Assets". Set the sharing permissions on the folder to "Public - anyone on the internet can see it". Learn more about visual design.


Create Your Visual Assets

All images, audio, video, animation, writing and any other assets included in your website must be original work, purchased work, work released under a creative commons license or work for which they obtained expressed written permission for use. Place these assets in your Google Drive folder.

Original Images

  • Images should be optimized for fast loading.
      • Full width images should be 1,000 pixels max. width
      • Half width images should be 500 pixels max. width
      • Use the free Resize Photos website to compress and add filters to your images.
  • Can be uploaded to your Google Drive folder and placed in you web page using the INSERT > Google Drive > From Drive method.

Images From The Internet

  • Must be labeled fair use. This KCAD DLC resource will help you find fair-use images.
  • Can be embedded directly into your website using the INSERT > Images > paste image url method.

Video

  • Can be uploaded to your Google Drive folder and placed into your web page using the INSERT > Google Drive > From Drive method.
  • Can be uploaded from YouTube using the INSERT > Google Embeds > YouTube method. This provides better playback across multiple devices.


Build As You Progress

Add the assets that you created into your wireframe layouts as you progress through the asset creation process. Instructions for working with Google Sites can be found on Google's website.
