Tammy Whiteford
Mrs. Whiteford is a 1st grade teacher at Alden Primary school and the varsity soccer coach. Mrs. Whiteford has been my soccer coach since 8th grade, and I have had the privilege's of being with her for 5 years. She has 3 children, one of them being in my grade and she has a loving and kind nature that she brings to our team. Each practice and game is filled with a laughs and lessons we learn along the way. She has a big heart and cares deeply for each player, giving everyone certain attention.
I first met Mrs. Whiteford in the fall of 8th grade when she asked me if I wanted to move up to the jv soccer team and of course said yes. It was the first practice in the chilly wind, and I remember looking at all the older kids, knowing I had to compete with them, I felt the nerves and anxiety start to run through my body. Coach Whiteford walked over to the team and told us to get on the line, in our head knowing we had to run. I remember gasping for air and asking myself why I would say yes to playing jv. At the end of the practice Coach Whiteford pulled me aside to talk, she gave me reassurance and told me she believed in me, those words touched my heart, and I started to gain confidence in myself. Throughout my years with Mrs. Whiteford, I have gained confidence, skills, and knowledge. I admire the type of person she is and the lessons she has taught me. She helped me grow into the strong player and person I am today.
I chose to interview Mrs. Whiteford because we have built a deep connection throughout my years of playing soccer. She has seen me grow not just as a player but a person and has taught me so many lesson that I get to take with me through life.
