Denise Ianello
My Aunt Denise is a hilarious, fun, and faithful woman. Being my father’s sister, I grew up with her as a constant presence in my life. Her bright smile and cheerful personality have always made it easy for me to talk with her, no matter how long it has been since I last saw her. She has had a large impact on my life and helped shape who I am today.
To say I have one main moment with my Aunt would be a lie. She has been a constant presence in my life. I remember being five years old, hiding under my blankets, giggling to myself as she sits on me, pretending I am not there. Or when I was fifteen years old, making my confirmation with her as my sponsor.
The one thing about my Aunt is that she will always find a way for her and our family to have fun. Her number one way of doing this is getting our family together to play games. Everybody is sitting around the living room at my house, laughing and full from the Christmas dinner. The food was the same as last year's and the year before that, fried fish from Tops and handmade pierogis all the girls made together the saturday after Thanksgiving. It is the same day every year, my dad's side of the family full of tradition. We spend Christmas Eve with everyone, caring more about the food and each other than the giftsreceivee.
As we chat, catching up on each other's lives, my Aunt Denise walks in with a big smile on her face, announcing that game time is on. She's spten her past few days finding challenges and competitions for my family. Luckily all of us are competitive so the games are never dull. She walks around, handing all of my family a kazoo. We all laugh in confusion, knowing it will be fun.
It ended up being when someone plays a song on the kazoo, the others guess it. It was perfect for my family, making everyone laugh on a perfect Christmas Eve night.
My aunt has always been there for me. Between her watching me and my siblings as we grew up to being my confirmation sponsor, I have always known I can count on her. She is fun and always knows how to have a good time. I chose her because out of anyone in my life, other than my immediate family, I hope to keep her close as I grow up.
