Hello, my name is Professor Luna, and I will be your instructor for this course. I am so excited to begin this journey with you.
I live in San Diego, Ca with my wonderful husband and our three children. We have two sons and a daughter. They keep us busy! We love the beach and try to spend as much time as we can by the water. I enjoy reading, watching films, fishing, and camping.
I earned my Master’s degree in English emphasizing in Comparative Literature from San Diego State University. I also earned my Bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in English. I have been teaching for over 10 years, and I am passionate about teaching writing. I teach for various colleges, and I enjoy it immensely. I want to help each of you become more confident in your academic writing. I was a community college students myself and was the first to graduate college in my family, so please reach out to me if you need advice or additional support. I am happy to help. You can do this! 😊
As a former community college student myself and the first to graduate high school and college in my own family, I am devoted to your success and dedicated to providing grace and support as you begin your academic journey. My teaching philosophy is based on the idea that I am here to help my students be their best and reach their educational and career goals through support, encouragement, and personal connections. Dr. Martin Luther King, a social activist, wrote “Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction. The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals,” and for me, those are words by which to live and teach. I believe instructors play a vital part in students' ability to think critically, advance academically, and become decent human beings. At the community college level, I have had the privilege of working with incredibly inspiring and focused students who encounter countless obstacles, and I am determined to provide each of them with individualized, personalized, caring support. I meet my students where they are, develop relationships with them, challenge but support them to succeed, and show them I genuinely believe in their ability to reach their goals. The foundation of my teaching philosophy is rooted in providing care and love for students, providing an example of overcoming hurdles, allowing students to make mistakes and grow from them, and continually believing in their ability to advance and teach me to be a better teacher and human. I strive to to provide an avenue of hope and social change through education, to encourage students to believe that they belong in higher education and can make impact on the world around them. ❤
