Orientation Lesson Plan

I. Objectives for the week:

Numbers Focus: Staff will review numbers 1-30 from wkbk pg. 74 and do practice work with a partner. Staff will also do partner work on pg. 72 exercises 6 & 7.

Vocab focus: The staff will review vocab from unit 1 from the textbook pgs. 3-26. Staff will learn vocab from pg. 29 and will practice words with a partner to reinforce vocabulary.

Grammar: In class we will discuss non-manual signals from textbook pg. 28. Staff will then practice pgs. 28 Classroom Exercises S to reinforce the areas discussed.

Exercise I to accomplish objective:

We will do partner work from the workbook to focus on learning letters for fingerspelling and numbers 1-30. To do this we will use the workbook pg. 6 for fingerspelling and pgs. 74. For numbers practice 1-30.

Exercise II to accomplish objective:

In this exercise staff will focus on partner exercises from the book that review the vocabulary covered in class. Pg. 29 and then practice with a partner Class ex. T #1 & #2 conversation.

Measures of Success

Assessment of staff success will take place as staff member are able to recall vocab during a question and answer period.

Assessment of staff success will be determined as staff are able produce the number 0-30 on their own without prompting or help from the book.

Assessment of staff comprehension Staff will successfully complete the conversation from pg. 29 in the textbook with a partner. Staff will be able to do both side 1 and side 2 from the questions and responses and conversation.

Materials for class:

The Master ASL text book and work book will be used in some of the teachings in the classes along side of the Conversational Sign Language II book. ASL scripted sentences will come from these two sources. Additional sentences will be produced by staff members and used during the classes as a reinforcement tool.

Video Section

This video focuses on the ASL alphabet. In the video I will discuss the proper handshapes that are required in making each of the letters in the alphabet as well as proper hand placement and location when fingerspelling.

This video takes a look at the numbers 0-20 and goes over the basics of the numbers. Take note of numbers 1-5 and 11-20 for hand positioning. Make sure the back of the hand faces the person you are signing to.
