The KAP survey aims to assess the baseline and endline levels of knowledge, attitudes and practices in order to define actions for their improvement. It can contribute, for example, to the design of a training programme or an awareness-raising strategy. Additionally, it makes it possible to evaluate our impact after project implementation.
The survey is generally conducted through questionnaires, providing a precise overview of the knowledge, attitudes and practices of a target group (e.g., school students, community leaders, women’s groups, etc.). It is carried out before, during and at the end of an activity or programme, allowing an assessment of the project’s impact on the target populations.
Note on KAP surveys. This note on knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) surveys aims to outline the principles, key steps and tools required to conduct this type of study, highlighting its value for project planning, monitoring and evaluation. It emphasises the importance of gaining an in-depth understanding of the perceptions and behaviours of target communities in order to strengthen the relevance, effectiveness and accountability of interventions, particularly in humanitarian and development contexts.
