SDT is built into the rota ("SPA - "Supporting Professional Activity") but we do not require the trainees to be present in the office of the shop floor. You can use this time flexibly to support your personal and professional development. However, you are also required to be contactable during this time (scheduled 11:00-19:00).
All Trainee and non-trainee grade clinicians have a designated Clinical Supervisor from the ED Consultant Team. Please, contact your supervisor first for any questions and ask for help with your portfolio.
A spreadsheet is regularly updated with education opportunities available to all clinicians. This includes regular teaching dates as well as ad hoc sessions; please enter your name to sign up to any practical sessions.
Teaching sessions for FY2s and GPSTs are held every other Wednesday from 14.00-15.00 (in PGEC and online).
Trainees are required to present a training topic (15-20 min) and lead a discussion. An ED Consultant moderates the sessions. A list of suggested topics is provided but other topics can be presented.
Teaching is organised for ED clinicians on the first Wednesday of the month. These are designed for senior clinicians, but all clinicians are welcome. The sessions are generally run online (MS Teams) - a Teams link will be sent out prior to the teaching session.
Although most sessions will be recorded for those who cannot attend on the day (available here), clinicians are encouraged to join live sessions using their allocated non-clinical time.
Simulation/procedural skills/management sessions will be arranged at regular intervals - the dates can be found on the Education Opportunities spreadsheet.
The ED M&M is usually held on MS Teams on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Generally, 2-3 cases will be covered - each case is presented then is followed by teaching on the topic and a discussion about the key learning points.
A range of free online lectures, interactive presentations, educational videos, quizzes and mock exams are available for all ED clinicians.
SASH ED offers a comprehensive CESR Training Programme.
