LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a powerful resource for professional networking. If you haven't already created your LinkedIn profile you owe it to yourself to do so. Then use LinkedIn to collaborate and reach out to others as a way of life, not just when you are in transition or seeking a job. At the bottom of this page you can view or download the document Using LinkedIn. It provides a wealth of practical tips for building and using this powerful tool.

Get LinkedIn

Professional networking is something we can do all the time. Pay it forward - share freely of your expertise. We recommend LinkedIn as a supplement to your formal and informal networking efforts. While LinkedIn does post many jobs we recommend Indeed as your best job search enginge. Indeed is where you can find jobs. LinkedIn is where recruiters can find you. Both are important.

Here are some additional resources on LinkedIn to help you get started.

  • LinkedIn First set up your fee account. Your Headline and Profile (or summary) are key and should align with your resume.
  • Ten Tips on Building a Strong Linked In Profile will get you started.
  • See also 29 LinkedIn Tips Everyone Should Use.
  • LinkedIn is much more than your online resume. As you build your network be careful to only accept invitations from people you know.
  • Ten Ways to Use Linked In is a blog that provides excellent tips all about online professional networking. This is separate from the main LinkedIn network. You can subscribe to the blog without joining LinkedIn.

Our ECM LinkedIn Group Guidelines

Once you have your own profile, we strongly encourage all Employment Coaching participants to share job leads, practical tips, success stories and prayer requests using our LinkedIn Group. You will need to request to join this non-public group. As you post please bear in mind the following guidelines...

When & How to Post

If you are looking for a response from anyone or everyone in the group, then by all means add a new post. On the other hand, if you are replying to an individual that you may be able to help, or are looking for help from one group member, then please contact that person directly by In mail from his/her profile or by email.

Discussion Topics

Using the subject line be very specific as to information shared or requested. Please also feel free to share job search tips or links to other resources. However, please confine your posts or comments to information regarding the job search process. This is not Facebook. Don't put anything in writing that you don't want made public or have to explain in court.

Posting Jobs

We encourage employment coaching participants and alumni to post job opportunities. To separate job postings from other discussions, please flag them as promotions. When posting jobs list the job title and employer on the subject line, then a brief description including how to apply and try to include a link to the company's website.

Appropriate Responses

Responses should directly address only the topic or question raised in the original post. New topics should be addressed in a new post with a different subject line.

Prohibited Correspondence

Negative or insensitive comments regarding others, their opinions or their requests are not allowed. Also avoid publishing negative comments about specific companies or services provided to job seekers. Anyone who violates this rule will be banned from the LinkedIn group after one warning.
