Innovation

Use case studies from industry and business to share and showcase new ways to address issues and in a discussion, prompt for alternative solutions and creativity.

Encourage discussions of examples from around the world, not just local – how are other countries approaching these issues? What are different perspectives on this issue?

Personally assign learner mini-teaching sessions about[topic] eg a social issue they have investigated.

Use a range of technologies in classroom activities – not as a feature in themselves but as a tool to deliver the learning in engaging and learner-friendly approaches. Show, not tell the innovation message. Great for additional skill development alongside the curriculum content knowledge.

Use ‘outside-the-box’ analogies and associations other than what has been introduced previously; for example, television to explain colour blindness, for example, tutor: "doctors are the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. Plumbers help keep people healthy by creating healthy homes".

Encourage learners in innovative thinking – making new connections across subjects, relating to wider range of topics and developing relevance and application.
