My third and last project in Woodworking was a Modern Side Table.
The Beginning/Preparation
I had to start by picking the type of wood that I wanted to use and gathering my pieces together. To start, I needed to apply edgebanding to my plywood for the box and trace out the shape of each piece for the bottom of the table. My legs had to be cut out on the bandsaw and my side runners needed a trim as well.
The process
I thought that the spoon and the cutting board took a while, but this project was definitely the most time consuming and had lots of steps. I learned to use the domino and the hand router during this process, and got more practice with the drum sander, orbital sander, and the bandsaw. I assembled my box and my leg pieces separately.
Final Result
Finally, all the pieces were attached to one another, sanded, varnished, and oiled. The color of the cherry wood is really enhanced by these final steps and I'm really proud of this final outcome! I think it would look so cute with a little flower pot or succulent and some books placed inside. So proud that I made this! I will be gifting it to my dad, who helped my screw the legs to the box. Also shoutout to Benjamin for helping me carry it home.
The End
I think Woodworking has honestly been the most unique class that I have taken at Stuy and I have developed skills that I never would have attempted if I did not take this class. Thank you Ms. Bernstein for an awesome year!
