Art Appreciation is a required class (one semester) for freshmen at my school, Stuyvesant High School. In the class, we are required to create artwork related to the content that we learn in class. Below are my favorite pieces that I produced in the class.
Freshman Year Jan 2019-June 2019
Recreation of "Dish of Apples" - MET Project
This piece is an 19.5 cm x 22.5 cm recreation of Paul Cezanne's Dish of Apples, and was done for my MET Project in Art Appreciation. The original painting is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and its bright colors and great composition inspired me to recreate it. I used Prismacolor colored pencils and a white gel pen to create this piece.
Drawing of "Pepito" by Goya
This drawing is of "Pepito" by Goya, another painting in the MET museum. My drawing is 8 in x 10 in and I drew it using graphite in a variety of different drawing pencils. The original painting intrigued me and recreating the colored piece in black and white was a fun challenge to me.
Drawing of the Stephanos Youth
This piece is a drawing of the Marble Statue of the Stephanos Youth, also displayed at the MET museum. It is a 5 in x 7 in drawing done in graphite, but the outline is done in charcoal. I thought that the statue would be interesting to draw and I included this drawing in my MET Project as well.
Stained Glass Window Design for JFK Airport
I created this piece in Art Appreciation and the assignment was to design a stained glass window that would be welcoming and aesthetic for people arriving at JFK Airport in New York. This 10 in x 13 inch piece was done in watercolor for the colors and pen for the linework.
One-Point Perspective Boxes
One of the first things that I learned about in Art Appreciation was one-point perspective and how to use it to effectively create depth in a drawing. In this drawing, I practiced using one-point perspective with boxes of different sizes and shapes using graphite on 9 in x 12 inch paper.
