OPENING NIGHT: OCTOBER 23RD 2023 5 - 6 P.M. IN BOETTCHER ROOM (ARTHUR LAKES LIBRARY)
I would like to thank everyone who has supported this project. This has been an absolutely life-changing experience and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support, mentorship, and guidance of so many people.
Thank you to my mom, grandparents, and Joey who have all supported me leaving for different periods of time--to make money to fund these trips (last summer) and to study abroad for 4 months this year. I am so thankful to have people who make me feel excited to share my stories and who have supported me when I've struggled.
Thank you to Armita, Mina, Katie, Elisa, Genie, and Seoyeon for finding time to pose for me and having really interesting conversations with me. Being from all over the world, my views about different topics--and life--have expanded so much through these shared conversations.
Thank you to Andrea Kemp and ASLD for providing amazing classes. I appreciate how with any drawing or painting, Andrea has amazing constructive criticism to help me develop more. Even when drawing or painting on my own, I always think of things she's said in the past to fix the picture I'm working on.
Thank you to SoonHwa, who expertly taught the process and history of Minhwa painting. I was so grateful for SoonHwa cooking ttokboki and fish cakes with homemade gochujang for me for lunch one day and then cooking lunch for my mom and me another day. They were such great meals and I loved hearing about her travels, dreams, and friends she's made over the years.
Thank you to Sherry Muniz, who provided a gallery space in the library. She offered vital help in preparing the space, printing off posters and tags, and offering all she could so that this exhibition could go smoothly.
Finally, a massive thank you to Justin Latici, Melanie Brandt, the McBride family, and the donors who have helped support me verbally and financially. I am so glad to have found a group that treasures expanding horizons, meeting new people, having challenging conversations, and developing individuals to expand holistically in STEM, art, and as humans. It's difficult to put into words how transformational this experience has been, but I hope this website gives insight into what I've learned and how I've changed through this practicum.
Thank you so much.
