I am a future ready librarian. Future Ready Schools believe that every child, regardless of zip code or family income, deserves access to a personalized student-centered learning environment, learning experiences that prepare students for a technology-driven world, research-based digital learning strategies implemented by highly qualified teachers, learning that develops interests for deeper engagement, and a clear pathway to postsecondary success. I plan to continue sharing innovative learning practices that support both teachers and students.
In 2008, I accepted my first substitute assignment for a middle school librarian and started my journey to becoming a teacher and librarian. I found the drawing below that a student made for me while searching for artifacts in my previous portfolio, a 5" binder which feels like it weighs 20lbs. I always kept the picture as the last page right after student work and other artwork I've received over the years. It means a lot to me because it is one of the first things a student ever gave to me and I was struggling at the time to believe I was making an impact as a teacher. When I look at it now I think of this being the last page of my portfolio for so long. I remember placing it there to remind myself that reaching a goal shouldn't stop you from setting a new one.
I began the library media science program at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with the intention of becoming a K-12 public school librarian. In light of the coronavirus pandemic along with its impact on schools and libraries, my goals have shifted. I prefer working with adult student populations and would appreciate working for any college or university library. I have a strong interest in pursuing music librarianship as it has always been a dream to be able use my music background for work. Another dream of mine has been remote employment. My big dream is to one day work for Library of Congress or Library of Parliament.
