Emilee Harris

A teacher's understanding of what it means to do mathematics profoundly influences the way they teach it.*

Hi, I'm Emilee, from Upstate SC. I was born to be an educator. Math education specifically is in my DNA. I have a vision of joyful, equitable instruction that sees every student in every classroom knowing, without a doubt, that they are doers and thinkers of math with unique, valuable identities that matter; knowing that the classroom wouldn't be the same without them; knowing that the capacity to access interesting, complex, foundational concepts lies within each of them and there is no door of opportunity that can't be open to them. The only thing in education I may be as committed to as I am to that vision is equipping teachers to facilitate learning experiences for children that help them develop and grow that level of confidence and belief in themselves. After 29 years in education, I still love all aspects of the work I've chosen to do and I still love making visible the capacity that lies in every learner.

I’m an experienced teacher, coach, team-builder, educational leader, professional learning designer and facilitator, consultant, and curriculum writer. I’ve worked with K – 12 students, teachers and leaders at the school, regional, and national levels. I’ve worked in public and public charter schools across five states. I have a clear vision for equitable instruction for all students and a commitment to pursuing it relentlessly. I have deep knowledge of PK – 12 math content, multiple curricula, effective instruction, assessment for learning, building and leading teams, and principles for adult professional learning.
