What are advantages/disadvantages of web-based learning & collaboration?

• I feel there are many arguments for both the advantages and disadvantages of web-based learning and collaboration. Some advantages of web-based is that individuals in different areas of the country and even the world can collaborate and communicate easily and efficiently online. They wouldn't have to meet in a common space or area to exchange ideas, but be able to communicate through messaging and videos. Some disadvantages to web based learning is that though the communication maybe easily accessible, sometimes there may be a lag in timing. Communication through email and other messaging systems is all dependent on how frequently the receiver of the information checks their mail.

What strategies would you apply to increase teaching or social presence in online learning?

• To ensure that I had a strong presence in my online learning class I would ensure not only that I was very active in the course, but also that the students were as well. I would make myself easily accessible to students by frequently checking my emails as well as using Zoom for face to face office hours so that students can become comfortable with talking with me and asking all of their questions. As for student responsibility I would require them to be on the course everyday or every other day to ensure they are keeping up with the content and staying engaged in the course.
