During a vacation, Cameron and his younger sister Jaleya were separated from their family on the night of the attack. Left alone in the center of Wotakour's capital city of Nelenai, they were caught in the center of the fray as the enemy attacked. A few weeks shy of seven years old, he would have the first experience of his family's anomaly. It had been in his family for generations, so long that no one remembered who it originated with, but being able to sense life and death was more of a curse than a gift that night. Cameron watched from the shadows, as a dark Wotakouran warrior cut through her own people, her image burned into his memory. Convinced he was going to die as she got closer, he pulled Jaleya close, but instead, the woman only looked him over, sparing their lives that night. Overwhelmed by what was unfolding, as well as the pain sweeping through his body, he collapsed, clutching his toddler sister to his chest. When he awoke, his mother was holding them and they were on a strange new world he had never seen before. They were among a small group of Wotakourans who fled to Earth together, some of the few from outside Caldesaria. His father was presumed dead that night.
Cameron was sick for years following the attack, his senses oversensitized and his memories making him relive that night over and over again. His sister was unaffected due to her young age, as the ability had not yet awakened in her. Nearly bedbound, he began to read, dedicating his time to learning as much as he could while he couldn't do much else. He found a particular interest in language and linguistics, and he sought to learn not only Hecathian languages but human as well. He also invested his time in learning self-discipline to manage his pain and truly start living his life. During this time, his mother had decided to move to the newly established academy to gain support for Cameron.
When he was thirteen, he decided to enter the traditional training period, feeling he was ready. Trained by his mother, a former elite warrior, he found strength and confidence. Though he still struggled occasionally, his body became more reliable, and he dedicated as much of himself to his physical training as he did to his mind. After training for two years, he joined the observance system where he would truly connect with others his own age for the first time as more young people joined.
Cameron settled into his new life, slowly mastering his skills and gaining the reputation of a talented and honorable warrior in his own right. The team changed over time, but Cameron remained; loyal to his team and his purpose there. Things had seemed fine, despite growing concern and grief over missing members within the community. The fall began with his observance leader, his friend Amber, resigning without warning. As her right hand, he was offered the leadership role, but he declined, choosing to stay in his position as second in command while Jacob took the lead. Cameron's world was then shattered on a night in October when he was called to his mother's home and told that her body had been found. She was the latest victim of a serial murderer, and his teammate Roselle was the last on that very same night.
Desperate for the perpetrator to be caught, Cameron was now alone with his team falling apart and his sister mentally scarred from having felt the death of their mother that night. Things grew worse when it was revealed that another member of his team was responsible. Betrayed and somber, Cameron would attend the short trial and execution of his former friend, and would find bittersweet solace as he felt his life fade. Things would remain grim, however, as Jaleya continued to struggle and was admitted into the academy's mental health ward as a precaution for her safety and for ongoing treatment. He visited her between his responsibilities as the temporary head of his observance as Jacob would leave the academy on a mission shortly after the trial, leaving Cameron to pick up the slack and hold what was left of them together. With the weight of his family and team on his shoulders, Cameron was about to crack, it was only a matter of time.
