Jacob Sagael

From the beginning, Jacob had been favored by his father. From an early age, he had displayed signs of being very gifted as a future warrior and potential successor to his father's growing power. This personal interest led to his father foregoing his siblings to personally train Jacob, starting younger than others did, at nine years old so that by the time he reached twelve, he was already formidable with a sword.

His father's investment in him placed a strain on Jacob's relationships, both with his siblings and other members of the community with the ebb and flow of critique regarding his father's leadership. Against his father's wishes, Jacob joined his older sister's observance at twelve, continuing to train with his father in the late hours of the night. Over time, these trainings would grow increasingly intense, and his father was neither a kind nor gentle man. Torn down and more often than not, injured, Jacob would seek out his friend Ryan in the nights to heal him before questions could be raised.

This pattern would continue for years until his father began sending Jacob on special assignments, following rumors of nearby threats and sending him to seek them out and destroy the threat before it got too close. While Jacob shut down several attempts of enemy forces to keep them from finding their whereabouts, these missions wore at him, as he was constantly under pressure by his father and destroyed him within. While many his age were finding their purpose and growing into their abilities, he was already using them as an extension of his father's will, following his bidding rather than finding himself.

At fourteen years old, he found some reprieve in his connection to Roselle Jakoste, who not only piqued his curiosity with her passion for life and mischief but also in her care for others. He was immediately drawn to her, despite her initial hesitation. The two grew closer and became romantically involved at fifteen, but it wouldn't last. A serial murderer had been active within the academy, with occasional disappearances happening every few weeks. Roselle was his last victim on a night that snapped Jacob's perception of reality. An investigation and trial would lead to the execution of his own teammate, carried out by Jacob himself. Wrecked with guilt and desperate for an escape, Jacob requested a long-term mission that would take him away from the academy for a few weeks.

Despite newly being appointed as observance leader following his sister's resignation, his mission was approved and he was sent to live with a host family, which was coincidentally Roselle's parents. The distance didn't relieve him of his troubles, but it allowed him to live without facing them every day. While getting to know his target recruits, he found freedom in this life away from his father, the now volatile relationship with his sister, and the haunting memories of Roselle. It was addicting, and he couldn't bring himself to leave it and return to the life he couldn't bring himself to face. Instead, he stayed, ignoring orders and living as an average human teen. It wasn't until a girl who uncannily resembled the description of a Hecathian princess walked through the school entrance and into his life that his reality slammed back into him. Just like before, his life would not only be about himself, but at least this time, he had a choice in who to follow.
