Project 1 was the “Formal Inquiries and Complaints” to the complaint letter. I found it difficult to shift my brain from being myself and asking question or making requests to becoming the company itself. This shift made me realize how there are always two sides to everything. I had to put myself in the shoes of the company to write the response. Changing the way I approached the letter as being a different person helped me to write this letter.
The placement of the pictures in the Inquiry Letter and in the Complaint Letter were meant to help to balance of the letter. Chapter 17 told me that balancing and aligning could make the letters more professional and aesthetically pleasing. The words in the two letters were also strategically placed with grouping in mind. I wanted it to distinguish when each paragraph started and ended. These principles of design were carefully thought out and planned in order to create the most professional letters.
In the Response to the Complaint Letter, I added in links to their website that could better explain something briefly mentioned in the letter. This was to add more information for the reader, but also to persuade the reader to look at the website and possible buy more books. I tried to keep a personable and relatable tone as mentioned in Chapter 6. This could help tone down the emotions and show that each side is a person going through things.
Project 1 has helped me to think about ways to not only write a letter in a professional tone, but also ways to promote a company through a response letter. I had to critically think of the best ways to incorporate pictures, links, and personal facts in a professional manner. Adding in too much information could make the purpose of the letter be lost, but by adding a few facts can help the letter be more easily understood.
