Project 1 included three professional letters. The first was an inquiry letter that was personally sent to a company with several questions for them to answer. Next, was the complaint letter which was also personally sent to a company with issues had with one of their products. Finally, the response letter address the complaint in the previous letter, but is from the company to a personal address. All of these letters were teaching me how to professionally format a letter to and from a company. I also learned about how to use these different styles appropriately and politely.
Throughout this project, I was trying to learn about how to properly use multi modality and how to use it personally and in professional work environment. The photos were used to either give examples of what I was referencing or to to show proof of my complaints. When using the photos, elements of design were considered. The balance of the page is seen in the complaint letter since each side appears asymmetrical. Photos in the inquiry letter are found on the right hand side of the page in order to draw more attention to them. Another way multi modality was used was by inserting links so that it is easier for the customer to reference the company's website.
For this project, I used canva in order to create each of the three letters. I now know how to use this technology to create letters and letterheads. Some skills that I learned to use in this project include how to format a letter and letterhead for a company and personally. Another is that I learned how and when to use plain versus persuasive language within those letters. Each letter showcased a different set of skills. The inquiry letter showed that I could properly ask questions to a professional source and use precise language to avoid miscommunication. In the complaint letter it shows that I am able to address something that is wrong with a product, but do so in a calm and informative manner. The response letter shows that I am able to see both sides of each the sender and the receiver in a situation and adjust my wording accordingly.
