OVERVIEW:
Within the Design and Technology department we aim to build a strong understanding of the following-
Graphic Communication
Our National Qualifications in Graphic Communication develop skills in graphic communication techniques, including the use of equipment, graphics materials and software, and build challenging, coherent and enjoyable journeys for learners through all levels. Combining elements of recognized professional standards for graphic communication with graphic design creativity and visual impact, the Courses also provide flexibility and choice in the use of manual and computer-aided graphics.
Practical Wood Working
Students are taught practical woodworking skills, practical creativity and problem solving at a National Qualification level. Learners develop understanding of safe working practices in a workshop environment, and awareness of sustainability issues in a practical woodworking context.
WHAT WE TEACH:
S1-S2: We rotate disciplines to give pupils the chance to develop their skills in Woodwork, Graphic Communication, Engineering Science and Design and Manufacture. We aim to develop an understanding of the role and impact of technologies in changing and influencing societies. Students will learn how to contribute to building a better world by taking responsible, ethical actions to improve my life, the lives of others and the environment. Our pupils will gain the confidence and skills to embrace and use technologies now and in the future, at home, at work and in the wider community. The department aims to broaden the understanding of the role that information and communications technology (ICT) has in Scotland and in the global community as well as develop an awareness of how ideas in mathematics and science are used in engineering and the technologies. We let students experience work-related learning, and establish firm foundations for lifelong learning, and specialised study and careers.
S3-S5: Pupils may then choose from Graphic Communication and Woodwork, which can be studied up to Higher and National 5 respectively these courses build on skills taught during S1 and S2.
