I have created several "Bookie Monsters" out of Scholastic boxes. Towards the end of the school year (or Grading period) I will walk around with the Bookie Monster during locker times. It's unbelievable how many books I get back this way! The kids especially love it when I make the sound effects. OM NOM NOM!! ME WANT BOOKIE!!!
Our students have the option of paying for a lost or damaged book, or buying a replacement copy for the library. Since payments for lost books (in my district) go to the general fund and not back to my library, I would prefer replacement books. We don't ask for the families to replace the same title book but to buy a new book from the list we make available, which gives the titles and series of several popular books in our library. This note goes home as needed, and in the last month of school, with any child who has possibly-lost books. (Regina Hartley)
Students: NEVER try to repair library books. We have special book glue and book tape in the library!
If you return the damaged book in the library book box:

This is the note I send to parents when a student's book is damaged. You'll need to change the info that's red in the document to reflect your information. (Jamie Camp)
Return this letter, signed by an adult family member, and return your library books and/or pay your library fines before the next library class. (Keisa Williams)
