Meeting Diverse Needs

Meeting Diverse Needs: "Uses appropriate inclusive practices, such as tiered supports and scaffolded instruction, to accommodate differences in students learning needs, abilities, interests, and levels of readiness, including those of academically advanced students, students with disabilities, and English learners."

How I did this:

I made sure that any and all phenomena chosen in the classroom were inclusive and did not rely on growing up in a westernized culture. Things such as an egg hitting a floor which I have mentioned is something I can safely assume most students have seen, and if they have not it is something I can easily demonstrate in class to create a shared learning experience in the classroom. Creating these shared learning experiences helps to make it so all students have the background knowledge to succeed in the unit. I also gave students the ability to relate what they know to what we were learning creating a variety of background knowledge and experiences that everyone could learn from and use to deepen their understanding of a topic.

To make sure that all students had the needed accommodations, I made sure to give guided notes and modify the assessments that I was giving so that all students had an equal opportunity to succeed in the classroom. I also made sure to do mini-lessons when needed to fill any gaps of knowledge students may have for any variety of reasons coming out of a pandemic.

General Education Summative Assessment

The general education students received an assessment with large answer spaces, and with larger questions condensed into one. You can view an example of this by following the hyperlink below.

Modified Summative Assessment

To modify the assessment for students I used sentence starters, broke longer questions into two parts, and bolded the keywords of the question. You can view an example of this modification by following the attached hyperlink.
