Orienteering

Orienteering is the process of identifying your locations in usually unfamiliar terrain. The purpose for orienteering is to introduce orienteering techniques and terminology. Participants will learn many map reading and land navigational skills. The objective of orienteering is to locate control points by using a map and a compass. Organizers of an orienteering event will give each participant a topographic map with various control points circled. Participants must go to each circles checkpoint in numerical order. Each control point has a corresponding flag marker on the ground and a special punch, which organizers use to track your progress and mark the scoreboard. The mission of orienteering is to give the cadets a sense of direction when under the pressure of harsh terrain, while keeping up a good physical health. Cadets participating must control your movement to determine correct direction of travel.
