Minority Rights Day celebrated at R.I.E., Bhubaneswar

Date and Day- 19.12.2022 (Monday)

Time- 3.30 pm onward

Venue- Staff Common Room, RIE, Bhubaneswar

Minority Rights Day which is observed on December 18th every year, was celebrated at R.I.E Bhubaneswar on 19th Dec 2022 in a blended mode.

Prof. Asfa Yasin, former professor PSSCIVE, Bhopal graced the programme and joined online as Chief Guest. Prof. P C Agarwal, Principal R.I.E. Bhubaneswar, also graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Prof Sandhya Rani Sahoo (Dean, I), Prof S C Chauhan, Convener Minority cell, NCERT and Head, DEGSN, NIE, NCER, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Head Dept of Education, RIE, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Elizabeth Gangmei, Programme Coordinator, Ms. Silvi Bakhla, PGT, Mohd. G Rahbar, PGT, Mrs. Fauzia Naqvie, PGT and students of RIE are present on the occasion.

Welcome song on the occasion of Minority Rights Day was sung by Ms. Silvi Bakhla.

Welcome address was delivered by Prof. S C Chauhan. He spoke on the importance of Minority Rights Day. He mentioned that “The United Nations on December 18, 1992 adopted and broadcast the Statement on the individual's Rights belonging to Religious or Linguistic National or Ethnic Minorities”. It is observed to safe guard the rights of minorities and to give equal opportunities and to spread awareness among them. He also mentioned that in India, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians comes under minority communities.

Prof. Sandhya Rani Sahoo Dean of Instructions introduced the Chief Guest Prof. Asfa Yasin. She apprised that Prof. Asfa Yasin was the founder member of minority cell in NCERT and has immense achievement in the glorious span of her career.

Prof. P C Agarwal, Principal, RIE in his opening remark, emphasized on the need of minority education. He said that there are lot of challenges in the area of education, especially in Muslim community. These challenges need to be addressed by creating general awareness about the government schemes. He said that all minority communities are equally important in society and we must provide equal opportunity to all. He told that we should develop an inclusive education system for minorities. He pointed out that, it is necessary to preserve the culture of all minority communities and there should not be any differences on the basis of caste, creed and religion. He said that all should get equal opportunities for their growth and development, then only we can achieve “SABKA SATH SABKA VIKAS” as said by Honourable Prime Minster. He also shared the experiences of the minority communities of his state Rajasthan and most importantly he also related the talk to NEP 2020 recommendations on equity and inclusive education.

Prof. Asfa Yasin, the chief guest apprised that she has been working for Minority Cell, NCERT since 1996. She was involved in the formulation of FAQ of Minority Education (Policy, Programme and Schemes). She shared about the contribution of NCERT for the upliftment of minority community and the role of NCERT in the Skill Development programme in various regions of the country. She has also pointed that education must be activity based to attract the minority students. She also related the talk to importance of skill development which come through nurturance of competency of the learner. NEP 2020 was elaborated at length while sharing on the theme of the programme- educational concern of the minority in the light of NEP 2020.
