Prof. H.K. Senapaty

Topic- Importance of Internship in the teacher education curriculum

Highlighted the outcomes of the internship program along with that what are the importance of this particular program according to him the possible outcomes are skills and competencies development, the profile of Institution will help to know the institute better, unit plan will help to manage the time, overall this will help to visit the gap between the theory and practice. Students will be able to compare the profile of the Institution with the standards, or the ideal standard set by the regulatory bodies. Under the functioning of the institution student will be able to understand what are the methods, transaction strategies the teacher educators follow, they will be able to critically reflect on the transaction of the regular teachers and at the same time analyze it, this is helpful for the student’s learners. This will also help in estimating, whether the learning outcomes are achieved or not. It will to create understanding about the transaction of Curriculum or the pattern being followed by the department. This will help to understand whether the methodology being used is able to change the behavior of the learners, is able to change their understanding pattern, and at the same time is reflecting in their behavior or not. This program will help to find out the gaps along with that critically reflection and suggestions on how to bridge up those gaps. Lastly he has suggested to compare it with the current education policy and NEP 2020 what is expected from the teacher education institute, what are the parameters being set what are the transaction mode suggested, all these things are being followed by the institute or not if not what changes are required to make it aspirational Institution. According to him importance of unit plan is to prepare for a broader learning objective keeping mind what are the learning objectives to be achieved and what are the expected learning outcomes and lastly to decide what type of changes are expected in a student’s behavior. Unit plant should be planned in such a way that it should be able to achieve the ultimate aim of Holistic development, to reflect upon the hidden curriculum, to help learners adjust according to the day to day challenges, to make more emotionally stable, to make good human beings, value promotion, constitutional goals promotion, it should go beyond the content. There should be development of understanding what are the skill and competencies required along with the content at the same time it should reflect on the vision of the institution while observing the classes of regular teachers students have to keep in mind how the teachers are transacting the curriculum what are the gaps that could be identified how the regular teachers are handling the situation in a class, what mistakes one should not commit when we become a teacher educators. Lastly, he mentioned the expectations from this program to come up with skills and competencies, learn to overcome the gap, find out the gaps by observation and interaction and try to reflect upon it.

Prof. B.N. Panda

Topic: Unit Plan

He talked about why, what, when, where in context of unit planning. According to him it is a plan of totally it is a broader aspect whereas lesson planning is the micro aspect for the same. Firstly, we have to analyze the content then identify the themes after identifying themes we have to write down the broader objectives then for individual concepts we have to write objectives, activities and the assessment techniques that we are going to use. Lastly educators have to mention what is expected after the completion of the lesson plan. According to him it is a Holistic picture encompassing all the themes that comes under a unit plan, has to be prepared first followed by the lesson planning in order to decide strategies to achieve the learning outcomes. It helps us to know all the aspects of a unit and give us a clear picture of how to prepare lessons systematically.

Hierarchical representation of concept, on concept map general terms/ broader term at top and diverging towards bottom. Ways of representation of concept map was discussed. Why we need unit plan first? Was clarified along with the relationship, requirements and importance of unit plan and lesson plan. Unit plan gives better clarity to deal and relate different lessons and concepts. She then discussed about the apps from where concept map can be prepared ex- C-map, how to use concept map as assessment tool. A sample has been shown and critically emphasized the way to prepare concept map. More emphasis on the interlinking of each and every terms and concepts to others and represent as web instead of chain. To get clarity all concepts should be related to each other with meaning and application. Important suggestion was to avoid the use of term like know, understand etc. basically which cannot be observable and measurable while deciding the learning objectives.
