Technologies listed under the heading "University Supported" are those which are centrally supported by the university. This means training and helpdesk support is provided for these via the Education Innovation Unit and the ICT helpdesk.
FASS Supported technologies are those that the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences provides and supports for staff at the Faculty. This support is provided by the FASS Learning team, which is part of the faculty Teaching and Technology Innovation team (T&TI).
Many academics use other common tools which are available to the public but not supported by the university (eg. YouTube, Google Docs or Vimeo). This means you are on your own with these technologies. We have included technologies we know to be relatively reliable, widely used, or low risk, but bear in mind that no training, help or support is available to you from the university or faculty so a plan B is required should you rely on these for teaching, especially for live/synchronous activity. In other words, innovate at your own risk :)
The content of this site was assembled from a variety of sources, including information available from Educational Innovation at the University of Sydney, web resources (in particular this resource from Fresno Sate University which provides the verbs categorised by Bloom's taxonomy) and from the experience of FASS Learning staff and academic staff at the University of Sydney.
Where we list technologies in this site, we have also tried to link to relevant courses available at Lynda.com. Lynda.com is an excellent source of high-quality flexible video-based training on just about any technology topic you can think of. You can do a complete course at your own pace, or watch just the videos on the topics you need to learn about. The university provides a subscription to Lynda.com for all staff. To log in, use the institutional sign in and log in with your unikey ID. If you have any questions about using Lynda.com, contact the ICT helpdesk.
If you're using technology for learning (and are happy to share your strategies) please let us know. We like to include short interviews with University of Sydney staff sharing how they use ICT for learning to help provide real-world examples for this site. Contact dorian.peters@sydney.edu.au to provide any suggestions.
