L’opera “Floating Propaganda” nasce da un interesse per l’architettura brutalista ed è legata a doppio filo alla mia profonda amicizia con un ragazzo bulgaro che mi ha introdotto alla cultura est-europea.

La tensione emotiva che contraddistingue le architetture brutaliste sovietiche è affidata alla semplicità della progettazione e ad una poetica “rude” dei materiali lasciati grezzi che creano tra di loro una armonia graffiante: un rapporto che si rivela tanto più primitivo e legato alle origini quanto più si cerca di configurarlo come un discorso intellettuale. 

L’opera si compone di una installazione video nella quale un  busto di Lenin (figura principe riprodotta in massa dal brutalismo sovietico) viene recuperato e lasciato galleggiare su uno specchio d’acqua donandogli un aura di leggerezza che lo proietta in uno scenario etereo e lo sgrava dal peso della storia. 

The work “Floating Propaganda” was born from an interest in brutalist architecture and is closely linked to my deep friendship with a Bulgarian boy who introduced me to Eastern European culture.

The emotional tension that distinguishes Soviet brutalist architecture is entrusted to the simplicity of the design and to a "rude" poetics of the materials left raw which create a scratchy harmony between them: a relationship that reveals itself to be all the more primitive and linked to the origins the more try to configure it as an intellectual discourse.

The work consists of a video installation in which a bust of Lenin (the princely figure reproduced en masse from Soviet brutalism) is recovered and left floating on a body of water, giving it an aura of lightness that projects it into an ethereal scenario and frees itself from the weight of history.
