UNDERSTANDING AR CONCEPTS, PROCESSES AND MODELS
1.Action research is a practical and theoretical approach aimed at driving change and improvement.
2.Models such as DepEd (2017), McNiff & Whitehead (2006), and Nelson (2014) all follow this approach.
3.A key feature of action research is its cyclical process, which involves observing, reflecting, acting, evaluating, and modifying.
4.The common elements among these models are the identification of a problem and planning the research actions.
A shared feature among these models is starting with identifying a problem and planning the steps for the action research.
Model B - Nelson, O. 2014
OBSERVE
They observed that 31 students, or 55%, scored at an average or poor level in the Diagnostic Test for mathematical skills.
REFLECT
Their goal is to improve the mathematics performance of 56 Grade 11 students at Buug National High School.
PLAN
We decided to enhance students' mathematics performance by using the Jigsaw technique.
ACT
They propose designing activities based on the Jigsaw technique to help students better understand mathematics. Through this method, students can practice, solve problems, reason, manipulate ideas, and perform tasks. The Jigsaw technique encourages them to connect mathematical skills and concepts with other disciplines.
What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how will these be utilized in your practice?
Action Research is a way for teachers to examine and improve their teaching practices. It starts by identifying a problem, reflecting on it, planning possible solutions, and then putting those solutions into action. This approach helps address real issues in the classroom and allows teachers to study their own teaching environment to become more effective.
As future teachers, is conducting Action Research worth doing?
Yes, conducting Action Research is absolutely worth it for us as future educators.
Why?
Because it helps us grow as teachers by improving how we teach, manage our classrooms, prepare the learning environment, create effective instructional materials, and assess students' progress.
How can Action Research be useful for every classroom teacher?
Action Research is valuable for all teachers because it allows us to reflect on our teaching methods and explore strategies to address everyday challenges in the school setting. By using this process, we can make informed decisions, adapt to our students’ needs, and continuously enhance the learning experience in our classrooms.
OBSERVE
a. What are the best ways to encourage non-participative students to engage in class activities?
b. How can we effectively address and prevent truancy among students?
c. How can we fully utilize and develop the leadership skills of our students?
REFLECT
a. Motivate students to participate by organizing engaging activities or group projects that encourage collaboration.
b. Always deliver well-prepared and meaningful lessons while fostering a positive and welcoming classroom environment.
c. Give students the opportunity to take the lead in class activities, allowing them to develop their confidence and leadership abilities.
PLAN
Critically assess whether the goal is realistic. Will creating more collaborative and teamwork-oriented activities inspire students to participate actively? If so, plan these activities with clear objectives, ensuring they are inclusive, engaging, and suited to students’ needs and interests. Additionally, providing continuous encouragement and feedback can further motivate participation and teamwork.
1. Action research requires a teacher to be:
observant of what is happening in the classroom. /
asking one self of how to improve teaching. /
following the daily routine all the time. /
finding ways on how children should learn better. /
blaming learners for their inability to learn. X
2. There are many ways of doing action research which follow a cyclical process. The process include:

Reflect, Act, Plan, Observe X
Plan, Observe, Act, Reflect X
Modify, Observe, Plan, Reflect X
3. As an action researcher, I will be developing my skill as a person who is

4. On which of the following would you choose to conduct an Action Research. Why? Changes in the classroom practices. Why?
Teaching a new process to the students. Why? Because as teachers, it is necessary to be able to teach and remain engaging. We need to be innovative and creative in finding the best possible ways to keep the students motivated to learn.
5. Which of the following relates closely to what action research is?
Used to address practical problems in the classroom. /
Refers only to everyday life of the learners. /
Allows teachers to study their own classroom. /
Brings theories and practices together. /
