Prof. Dr. A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar was nominated to the Syndicate of Anna University by HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR OF TAMILNADU, when the Unitary type of the University transformed into an Affiliating type during its Silver Jubilee Celebrations (1978- 2002) and he represented Professor’s Category in the First Syndicate in 2002. His primary responsibility as a Syndicate member has been to ponder over and work towards the improvement of research, students, and faculty members in the technical institutions, research institutions and the people who manage those.

Being a natural orator, he has put forth his views and never failed to voice to ensure quality in technical education in the state of Tamil Nadu. During 3-year tenure in the Syndicate of Anna University, Chennai, he worked unceasingly to solve all the problems arising from the affiliation granted to more than 225 colleges. Keeping in mind the needs of the industry and the advancements in science and technology, he was instrumental in bringing about a complete makeover in post graduate and under graduate curricula. He narrowed the gap between the requirements of the institution and industry with the introduction of these new curricula.

Academic Research

  • Prof. Dr.A.Ebenezer Jeyakumar was the Regional Director (Research), Salem (Zone-6) of Anna University and Member of the Board of Research, Anna University-Chennai. In addition, he is also a member of Ph.D. & M.S. (By Research) Selection Committee in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Anna University, Chennai.
  • During his tenure in the Syndicate of Anna University, he was involved in preparation of “Regulations for Doctoral Qualifications” and he also set his expectations high to encourage innovative research with the aim of “Reaching from the Laboratory to the Market”. It was Prof. Dr. A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar who stressed the need to have at least TWO International Journal publications for the award of Ph.D. degree to ensure that the quality of research was maintained in its pristine glory.

Faculty Development Program

  • Owing to Anna University's size, Prof. Dr. A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar’s primary concern was to improve the teaching skills of teachers, to provide quality education to the students, and to make the students more employable.
  • In order to improve the skills of teachers, Prof. Dr. A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar favored the move by Anna University to establish the Centre for Faculty Development to help them update their knowledge, train them in new and emerging areas, and to encourage them to undertake research.

Academic Council

  • Syllabi were totally changed, incorporating recent developments in science and technology and meeting the industry's requirements. Prof. Dr. A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar’s objective is to make students more employable by inculcating in them proper attitudes and values.
  • As a Syndicate member, he ensured that ethics and values became an integral part of the syllabus to train students to arrive at value based decisions in conflicting situations.

New Initiatives

  • Prof. Dr. A. Ebenezer Jeyakumar imprinted his presence in the Syndicate of Anna University, Chennai and contributed actively to the creation and sustenance of the following:

Anna FM

  • Anna University became the first university in the country to have a community FM radio of its own.

New Courses

  • Anna University introduced several new courses. These include B.E. in Food Technology, B.E. and M.E. in Pharmaceutical Technology, M.Sc. in Electronic Media, and M.Sc. in Information Technology and M.E. in Plastic Technology.

e-Governance

  • Anna University aimed at maintaining high quality in technical education on par with the best in the world, extending support to society through need-based research projects, undertaking basic research in cutting-edge areas of science and technology (such as embedded systems, biotechnology and e-security) and making the university system completely transparent through e-governance.

AU-EDUSAT

  • The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched `EDUSAT', an exclusive satellite to upgrade India's educational programmes. Under this EDUSAT programme, Anna University conducts satellite-based classroom activities which provide information-communication technologies-enabled education to all age groups in regional languages.

Microsoft .Net CoE

  • MICROSOFT Corporation India Pvt. Ltd and Anna University launched the establishment of a .NET Centre of Excellence at the School of Computer Science and Engineering inside the University campus. The centre would cater to about 225 affiliated colleges of the University, equipping students with the latest tools, techniques and infrastructure to create and deploy XML Web services.
  • Microsoft would support the University in the development of curriculum, software management, faculty development and student technology support programme. A number of innovative concepts have been generated and introduced to ensure that the quality of the teaching by faculty is improved in addition to other extra and co-curricular activities.
