Training: Not required

Age Requirement: Any Age

Reservation of time: First come First Serve

Materials

  • PlayDough
  • Workspace
  • Sculpting tools

Overview

Makers will learn how to:

  • Review a simple introduction to 3 Dimensional modeling with playdough
  • Create base shapes for additive modeling with playdough
  • Combine basic shapes for additive modeling with playdough
  • Image real world objects as geometric shapes

Safety Considerations

Do not eat clay

Procedures

You can think of modeling as the combination of geometric shapes.

Imagine

Think about things you would like to create with playdough.

See what others have done

  • Google: Google images search
  • Google pictures of your favorite animals, objects, etc
    • Search Query words: clay modeling projects

Find or imagine the subject you would like to create.

Plan

On a sketch paper draw out the shapes and forms you see in your shape.

Think about printing out the picture, or tracing the figures from the laptop or tablet screen.

Imagine or draw the geometric shapes that make-up the subject.

Make

Use clay to create the shapes that make-up the subject.

Sculpt Cylinders

Sculpt Sphere or Ovoid

Sculpt a flat cylinder

Sculpt a long thing cylinder

Reflect

Look back at your plan and see how they compare. What was great about your design? What do you think you could change or do differently next time? What are you going to try next?

I noticed the skin on the elephant is all rough and textured. I think I'll try to add some detail to my elephant next.
