Engineering Design Process

Ask

What is the best design for a bubble wand?

What are the different designs the bubble wand can be?

Google Image Search: "best bubble wand designs" (link)

Research: "How do bubble wands work?" (link)

Brainstorm

Armed with the knowledge from above and your interests, brainstorm different solutions and ideas to create a bubble wand. Come up with as many ideas as you can.

Choose

Choose one of the ideas from your brainstorming session. Don't second guess yourself. MAKE it and see what you discover.

Create your solution

Now is the time to start making.

On paper draw your selected idea from above.

Need High Contrast drawing

  • Use black marker
  • White paper

Consider area of material

  • The parts of your image that are colored will be printed.

In Dialogue Window, select "Download"

Choose .STL format

Format .STL file into 3D printer-readable file (MakerBot Replicator+)

Open MakerBot Print

Drag-and-drop or upload file to MakerBot

Choose the 3D printer in your makerspace, in this case MakerBot Replicator+

Export the file and save onto a USB thumbDrive

Reminder: You need to be trained on this specific tool before using.
