Positive discipline is a parenting and educational approach that focuses on teaching children self-discipline, responsibility, and problem-solving skills. In early education, it involves guiding children with respect and encouragement rather than punishment.
At Duoduo Academy, our positive discipline is backed up by the RIE ("Resources for Infant Educarers") education philosophy and approach that is at the heart of our value. RIE focuses on respectful, trusting, and responsive care. Above everything else, “Respect” is the Guideline of RIE’s Philosophy. At our school, we practice positive discipline via providing respectful, trusting, and responsive care for our children.
Our staff are encouraged to build positive relationships with every child and his/her family by creating environments that are supportive and using positive teaching and learning strategies.
Mutual Respect: Treating children with the same respect we expect from them.
Understanding the Child's Perspective: Recognizing that children's behavior often reflects unmet needs or developmental stages.
Encouragement Over Praise: Encouraging effort and improvement rather than just praising results.
Fostering Responsibility: Helping children learn from their mistakes and understand the consequences of their actions.
Problem-Solving and Resilience: Intervening only when necessary to ensure safety, allowing children to solve problems and develop resilience.
Consistency and Routine: Providing a predictable environment with clear expectations and consistent consequences.
Trust in the Child's Competence: Believing in and supporting the child's ability to explore and learn at their own pace.
Uninterrupted Play: Allowing children to engage in self-directed play without unnecessary interruptions, fostering independence and creativity.
We use positive reinforcement and redirection to guide children's behavior. Physical punishment is never used. There is NO Time-out at DuoDuo Academy. The following highlighted strategies are used to foster positive discipline at DuoDuo Academy.
