I was born in China and came to the U.S. for college in 2008. I moved to the bay area in 2015, the same year I met my current husband.
Now we have two lovely children, one is 5 years old and the other is 2.
I have endless passion in early education, and have read more than 100 books, in addition to hundreds of podcast and articles about Reggio-Emilia, Montessori, Wardorf, RIE, Positive discipline, etc.
My older one is a highly sensitive child (HSC). For the longest time, I also suspected he had Autism when he was around 2. I have dedicated hundreds of hours looking into early education philosophies and practices that I can use to help my children build self-esteem, self-confidence, passion for learning, and most importantly passion for life!
I believe that ensuring the fundamental needs from the child are met and building the connection and trust with the child is THE most important solve for pretty much all challenging moments and behaviors especially during the early years. Keep in mind that when your child is screaming and being challenging, that's just the sign that his/her daily tank of connection, attention, or sense of controlling isn't filled up successfully. At that moment, even though they may be very mean and telling you "I hate you", they are most likely crying for love and a hug from their loved ones.
I believe in developing children’s independent thinking and problem solving skills, instead of memorizing numbers and letters for the pre-school years. Ability to think and solve problems, with reactivity and resilience, that are built into the children’s brain in early ages will have lifelong benefits for the little ones.
When approaching a problem, children experience how to find several solutions and eventually understand that the process is more valuable than the correct answer.
I really hope my years of learning and practicing of early education as a parent, especially in Reggio-Emilia and RIE, can benefit more families and children!
