Nouns are words that point to objects, people and terms. One big difference to English is that Norwegian uses a three gender system. Nouns are in Norwegian conjugated after gender(Masculine, Feminine and Neuter), number(singular and plural) and specificity(a and the). It is worth noting that masculine and feminine nouns can be treated as a common gender, but we choose to keep them separate since three genders are quite common in speech and is required in nynorsk (Therefore, making it easier to learn later).
Masculine nouns:
Masculine nouns are marked by the indefinite marker En in singular form. Regular nouns will take the endings -en in singular definite form, -er in plural indefinite form, and -ene for plural definite. Irregular nouns will change vowels in plural forms.
Example sentences:
Det er en fin hund -That is a nice dog
Hunden er fin -That dog is nice
Alle hunder er fine -All dogs are nice
De hundene er fine -Those dogs are nice
En ung mann -A young man
Den unge mannen -The young man
Mange unge menn -Many young men
Mennene er unge -All the men are young
Feminine nouns:
Feminine nouns are marked by the indefinite marker Ei in singular form. Regular nouns will take the endings -a in singular definite form, -er in plural indefinite form, and -ene for plural definite.
Example sentences:
Ei jente sykler hjem - A girl bikes home
Jenta sykler hjem - The girl bikes home
Mange jenter sykler hjem- Many girls bike home

Neuter nouns:
Neuter nouns are marked by the indefinite marker Et in singular form. Regular nouns will take the endings -et in singular definite form, -er in plural indefinite form, and -ene for plural definite. As we can see some shorter words like Lys and Hus get no ending at all in plural indefinite form.

Huset er rødt - The house is red
Mange hus er røde - Many houses are red
