Grade smearing can occur when a small high grade interval is used to increase the grade of a wider interval, that may be very low grade on its own.
This can change the nature of the deposit; from a narrow vein high grade mine to a lower cost bulk mining scenario. However the bulk mining itself may be marginal if not for the high grade "including" intervals that boost the entire interval grade.
Main Interval: is the length and grade(s) of large interval being reported.
Including: are the length and grade(s) of the various highlighted zones.
Remainder of Intercept: is the length and average grade(s) outside the "included" zones.
Is the Remainder economic or marginal?
