APPX 6 miles round trip
After parking at the SGL parking lot procede through the gate. About 500 yards up the main crushed stone trail you will see the blue blazed Sand Spring Trail.
Trail will follow the creek then eventually cross over it. Please note: depending on the rain the stepping stone rocks across the creek may be underwater
Trail will make a hard right then go up some primative steps. Top of this hill is covered in blueberries starting around July, then dip down into some laurels
After the laurels trip will dip down into a gully (again be careful about when you go rain will make this flood)
As soon as you cross the creek trail will become super rocky. About 30 yards up the trail on the left is the Sand Spring
After visiting the Sand Spring continue down the trail until you get to a cleared out area with a campfire and a small spring. You will see signs to the Tom Lowe trail and to the appalachian on the other side of the camp. You will turn right on the one pointing towards the appalachian trail
When you get to the Appalachian trail turn right until you get to the service road
Turn right on the service road and follow it until it makes a 90 degree right hand turn.
Continue to follow this road all the way to the bottom of the mountain and you will be back at the starting parking lot
